As a veterinary assistant, Cassie spends her time at Smith Veterinary Hospital drawing blood, administering injections, taking radiographs, preparing pets for surgery, monitoring pets during surgery and recovery, and assisting doctors during examinations. She joined Smith Veterinary Hospital in May 2010.

"My co-workers are all very easy to get along with and work with," she says. "It doesn't feel like work because I love my job and I love the family atmosphere!"

Outside work, Cassie enjoys hiking, camping, jet skiing and river rafting. She has three dogs: Kane, an American Pit Bull Terrier; Juice, an American Staffordshire Terrier; and Lexi, a Toy Schnauzer.

Smith Veterinary StaffKathy Pursley, Room Assistant & Reception

Kathy has been a friendly, compassionate part of the Smith Veterinary Hospital team since February 2009. As both our room assistant and receptionist, her responsibilities include gathering patient information, assisting our doctors during examinations, cleaning, answering phones, scheduling appointments, filing and checking patients in and out. Kathy is a licensed pharmacy technician.

"We have the most amazing doctors and support staff and wonderful clients," she says. "I love that we're known in the Antelope Valley as THE compassionate hospital — I feel people seek us out because of our reputation."

Kathy has three dogs: Annebel Lee, Lucy and Timmy Joe. In her free time, she enjoys baking, reading, Sudoku, watching her daughter's roller derby competitions and keeping in touch with friends and family.

Courtney Baldorf, Kennel Assistant & Front Office Assistant

Courtney has roles in our kennel and front office; her responsibilities include caring for our patients, keeping kennels clean, filing, checking patients in and out and answering phones. She starting working at Smith Veterinary Hospital in April 2011, joining her mother Kelly, who has worked at the practice since Courtney was 5.

"I grew up here and I think we're the best veterinary hospital around," she says. "I love the people and the pets. We're a team of caring people who try to help and do our absolute best for our community."

Courtney has two dogs, an Australian Shepherd named Kaos and a Doxie/Yorkie mix named Schnitzel, and a cat named Mr. Tails. In her free time she enjoys photography, exercise and spending time with her friends, family and pets.

Digital Radiology for Lancaster Animals

Cheryl Castellanos, Veterinary Technician

Cheryl Castellanos is a veterinary technician at Smith Veterinary Hospital. Her duties at our animal hospital include caring for patients, placing IV catheters, drawing blood, administering medications, assisting with surgeries, and client education. Cheryl has over ten years of experience in animal-related positions, including multiple local veterinary hospitals and an animal rescue.

"I like working at Smith Veterinary Hospital because everyone is like family," Cheryl says. "We all get along, and we're always there for each other. Everyone is so caring and compassionate, and we all love animals."

At home, Cheryl is the pet parent to four dogs: a Pitbull named Bugzy, a Cocker Spaniel named Roxy, a Scottish Terrier named Kopie, and a Sheltie named Stella. When she's not at our animal hospital, Cheryl enjoys spending her free time with her family and her animals. She enjoys visiting Disneyland with her husband two-year-old son, and enjoys trips to the beach, hikes, bike rides, and swimming.
